🔬💡 The Europe horizon is back on the Azores!

In May, the European Union's Framework Program for Research and Innovation will be a central theme of two informative sessions, directed to support structures and regional stakeholders interested in participating or reinforcing their presence in European projects.

🔎 The goal? Reinforce the positioning of Azorean entities in the program, promoting good practices, participation strategies, and more effective project management.
The initiative is organized by Ani | National Agency for Innovation, in collaboration with the Gaspar Frutuoso Foundation (FGF), the University of the Azores (UAC) and the Regional Science and Technology Fund (FRCT).

Gala FGF 2025 - REWARD AND RECOGNIZE ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE 🏵️🥇🎓

On March 21, the Gaspar Frutuoso Foundation (FGF) held the FGF gala, in the Magna class of the University of the Azores (UAC).

During the ceremony, twelve prizes were awarded and the presentation of the FGF Board of Directors, Prof. Doctor Vítor Gonçalves, from the second edition of the UAC Scientific Merit Award, in the amount of € 5,000, in the “Engineering and Technologies Sciences” area, sponsored by the Azores Mutual Agricultural Credit Caixa.

The Ana Neto Award, worth € 1,000, which distinguishes the student with the highest final average of the UAC Biology, in the 2023/2024 school year, was delivered by the Vice-President of the FGF Board of Directors, Dr. Simão Neves, Artur Roquete in representation of the honoree, André Fernando Torres Reis.

The eight Higher Education Entry Merit Awards at UAC, worth € 1,000, result from a protocol signed between the FGF and the Ponta Delgada City Councils, Vila Franca do Campo, Ribeira, Lagoa, Village, Heroism, Praia da Vitória and Horta and distinguish the student with the highest access to UAC in UAC First option, in the school year 2024/2025. These awards were delivered by the President of the FGF Board of Directors, Prof. Doctor José Noronha Rodrigues and the representatives of the presidents of the municipal councils mentioned. The distinguished students were Matilde Sousa Couto, Cierra Soares da Silva, Sofia Gouveia Bernardo, Tomás Miguel Melo Couto, Joana Aguiar Cabral, Inês de Viveiros Furtado Botelho, Luís Alexandre do Carmo Meireles and Carolina de Almeida Lima.

The three awards of academic excellence in agrarian sciences, sponsored by the São Miguel Island Agricultural Association (AASM), were first awarded this year and distinguish students with the highest completion, for the school year 2023/2024, in the degree in € 1,000, a student of one of the masters (Biological and Rural Development/ Rural Development/ Engineering/ Engineering. Agronomic/ Zootechnical Engineering and Master in Technology and Food Security) in the amount of 2,000 € and the student with the highest average conclusion of the Integrated Master's preparatory in Veterinary Medicine, in the amount of 2,000 €. These awards were delivered by the president of AASM, Mr. Jorge Rita and the President of the FGF Board of Directors, Prof. Doctor José Noronha Rodrigues to Cecilia de Jesus Soares Franco, from the Master in Agronomic Engineering and Iara Senra, Financial Secretary of the UAC Academic Association, representing Margarida Pereira Bettencourt, from the degree in Agrarian Sciences and David Manuel Sequeira Fernandes, from the Integrated Master in Veterinary Medicine.

During the ceremony there was also a musical moment, provided by Thin Rockschool.

On March 21, at the end of the FGF Gala, a moment of Networking among Partners and Companies, Researchers, FGF, and the University of the Azores took place, sponsored by the company Electrolaranjo.

This event, held in the entrance hall of the Aula Magna at the University of the Azores, was attended by representatives of FGF's partner companies, InUAc, and ESTA, as well as the Rectoral Team of the University of the Azores, Official Organizations, and Organizations from the Scientific and Technological System of the Azores from the islands of São Miguel, Terceira, and Faial. They had the opportunity to interact with the teams from FGF, UAc, and Researchers.

It was an excellent opportunity, in an informal setting, for reunions, dialogue exchanges, and sharing, to re-establish contacts, but above all, to identify potential partnerships, projects, and future collaborations.
