Verónica is a seabird ecologist at Okeanos R&D Centre (Azores University). She graduated in Environmental Engineering – Environment branch – from Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT), a 5-year pre-Bologna course. In 2006 she completed her PhD On the Conservation of Roseate Terns at the University of Glasgow. She has more than 40 publications in specialized scientific journals, over 30 talks at scientific meetings, over 30 science dissemination articles in national newspapers and magazines and is the author of a book on Darwin´s passage in the Azores and a co-author in three book chapters. She has received several awards and supervised dozens of bachelor, master, Erasmus+ and PhD students. She is regularly involved in the dissemination of science and has promoted and participated in several activities with children, youth and seniors. She is interested in transgerational wisdom and symbiosis for the promotion of science. She is passionate about the Oceans not only from a scientific point of view, but also from an emotional one. The Ocean is her therapy and in 2015 she developed a passion for open water, activity for which the Azores have great potential. She organized the first ever Total Immersion (http://www.totalimmersion.net/) workshop in Portugal and in 2016 she swam the Faial-Pico channel. She believes Peace starts in each of us and in 2016, on her initiative, a Kaki – Tree of Peace, Revive Time Project, was planted at the Botanical Garden of Faial island, Azores (https://kakitreeproject.com/english/).
