Gaspar Frutuoso Foundation awards Ana Neto Prize for excellence in Biology

The Gaspar Frutuoso Foundation (FGF) annually awards the Ana Neto Prize to the best student in the Biology Degree program, worth €1,000, (one thousand euros)  in memory of Dr. Ana Isabel Neto, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Azores between 1987 and 2021.

The award recognizes the dedication of researcher Ana Isabelo de Melo Azevedo Neto, who always expressed great appreciation for the work of the FGF team in managing her research projects, some of which are still ongoing. In 2021, the Board of Directors decided to establish this distinction, reinforcing the Foundation's commitment to recognizing academic and scientific merit.

To mark this tribute, the FGF creative team designed an exclusive logo for the award, made available to R&D units and faculties interested in using it in future publications and events. The logo incorporates two central elements:

The handwritten signature of Professor Ana Neto;
A seaweed, taken from a scientific article she authored.
The use of the name Award allows the recognition of the award to be extended to international platforms, publications, and events, reinforcing the visibility of the researcher's contribution and FGF's connection to scientific excellence.
