Scientific Merit Award

Fundação Gaspar Frutuoso (FGF) and Caixa de Crédito Agrícola, aware that the recognition of research and development activities in various scientific areas constitutes a stimulus for the progression of knowledge in themes essential for the improvement of science and/or quality of human life, and that institutional cooperation is an added value for the promotion and advancement of scientific knowledge, technological development and innovation, they established a protocol among themselves for the attribution of the Scientific Merit Award from the University of the Azores.
The University of the Azores Scientific Merit Award, worth €6.000 (six thousand euros), sponsored entirely by Caixa de Crédito Agrícola, aims to distinguish, recognize, and promote the scientific work of members of the University of the Azores (UAc) community. ), assuming a driving role for a culture of excellence in research in all scientific fields.
Scientific area of the Award in 2026
For the 2026 edition, the FGF Board of Directors decided to award the Scientific Merit Award to the University of the Azores in the scientific area “Medical and Health Sciences”.
Applications
Recipients
Under Article 3 of the Regulation, the Award is intended for professors and researchers who have a link with the UAc or the FGF, for scholarship holders for whom the UAc or the FGF are funding or host entities and for other researchers who are integrated members of UAc research units.
Scientific area of the Award in 2026
For the 2026 edition, the FGF Board of Directors decided to award the Scientific Merit Award to the University of the Azores in the scientific area “Medical and Health Sciences”.
Submission of applications
Applications for the Scientific Merit Award of the University of the Azores are open between 0 am on March 5 and 23:59 pm on March 31, 2026.
Applications must be submitted using a specific electronic form, available on the FGF website. Each candidate may submit only one application, under the terms defined in the Regulations and the Notice. Only scientific articles with original results, published in journals indexed in SCOPUS or WEB of SCIENCE with an impact factor equal to or greater than 5 (five) will be admitted to the competition. Applications submitted after the deadline or that do not meet the requirements indicated in the Regulations and the Notice will be excluded.
