Service Provision Description:
The present provision of services is developed within the scope of the project called Environmental Bioavailability of Iodine and Selenium in a volcanic environment: soil, pasture grass and milk from the island of São Miguel, Afores , Lactis+.
The goals are as follows:
1. Determining, if and how, the environmental availability of iodine and selenium may be affected by environmental and geological factors by comparing the availability of the elements through: i) geographic location of the collection sites, geomorphological aspects and other geological characteristics; ii) physicochemical characterization of soils; iii) determination of the concentration of iodine and selenium in soils and in grass samples from the respective pastures;
2. To verify if and how, pasture-fed milk can be used as an agent for human supplementation, characterizing the content of Iodine and Selenium in raw and pasteurized milk.
