Project Description:

SELINA (Science for Evidence-based and sustainabLe decisions about Natural capital) is an international project that aims to contribute to the improvement of decision-making – in the public and private sectors – on the protection, restoration and sustainable use of the environment.

To achieve this end, the project aims, among others, to idenfy factors related to ecosystems and the conservation of biodiversity that can be integrated into organizational decision processes; and demonstrate how collaboration between science and the public and private sectors can improve the integration of environmental factors into decision-making processes.

SELINA is being implemented by a consortium of 50 partner entities from the 27 EU member states, Norway, Switzerland, Israel and the United Kingdom. The project is coordinated by the University of Hanover (Germany). The total budget amounts to €13 million, fully funded by the European Commission through Horizon Europe. The work schedule extends from July 2022 to July 2027.

FGF is the only Portuguese entity to participate in this project, being in charge of providing R&D infrastructure, carrying out research and validating methods and ideas. The budget allocated directly to the entity amounts to more than 200 thousand euros.

SELINA will contribute to the goals of the European Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and the Green Deal.
