Main Objectives:

The 2023 Marine Robotics Summer School is an innovative initiative that aims to provide an exceptional learning experience to participants, combining advanced theory and practice in marine robotics. Students can work with renowned experts in the field, participate in captivating research projects research projects and explore the natural and scientific potential of the Azores and the institutions involved. Only in its 3rd edition, the Marine Robotics Summer School is already a huge success of engagement between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Portuguese research institutions. Last year, this version of the school was held for the first time in Faial, Azores, in collaboration with the University of the Azores, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and MIT Portugal, among other institutions that collaborated such as the AIR Center and the +Atlantic CoLAB. The course generated a lot of interest and attracted around 100 talented students from around the world, competing for just 20 places. The quality of the course and the demand we had in the 2022 edition motivated us to hold a third edition in 2023, with the expectation of receiving 24 students from MIT and Portuguese universities with a strong interest in marine robotics, oceanography, ocean observation, biology marine life, marine archeology or ecosystem mapping. Once again, the number of applications approached one hundred, creating the necessary conditions to transform this into a on a world-renowned course focused on robotics in observing the Atlantic, also reinforcing the synergies between the American and Portuguese institutions involved in the programme.
