Main Objectives:
  • The general objective of the project is the analysis, mitigation and management of the risk of slope movements driven by climate change in Macaronesia;
  • Develop and harmonize methodologies for analyzing susceptibility and risk to slope movements driven by climate change in Macaronesia;
  • Develop monitoring programs and warning and alarm systems for slope movements driven by climate change to mitigate risk and support decision-making in Macaronesia;
  • Creation of a collaboration network between participating partners, training of entities involved in responding to emergencies and disasters and involvement of the population in relation to movements driven by climate change in Macaronesia;
Project Description:

The sustainable development of outermost regions, where adverse meteorological factors, whether or not enhanced by climate change, are the cause of environmental imbalances in ecosystems and natural disasters, requires a set of sophisticated analyzes of surrounding processes for their understanding, analysis and mitigation. The geomorphological evolution of volcanic islands is shaped by geomorphological processes, namely slope movements, which represent a serious constraint on human activity and ecosystems. Furthermore, they constitute a considerable source of risk to people and property, so it is crucial to reinforce your knowledge and increase resilience and adaptive capacity to this climate-related risk. The main objective of PRISMAC is to analyze, mitigate and manage natural risks, in particular the risk of earth movements, driven by climate change. The aim of the project is to develop and harmonize methodologies for analyzing susceptibility and risk to slope movements with a view to identifying risk locations for the development of monitoring, warning and alarm systems for slope movements, on a local scale. and regional, for each of the regions. The project also aims to disseminate knowledge among the partners involved, train entities involved in responding to catastrophe situations and improve mitigation of the risk of watershed movements.

Results:
  •  High resolution Digital Terrain Models; - Identification and characterization of geologicalgeotechnical units (MACASTAB legacy); - Inventory and cartography of slope movements; - Algorithms for analyzing susceptibility and calculating specific risk;
  •  Identification of identified risk locations and slope inspection work; - Selection of locations, development and implementation of monitoring networks for the development of early warning and warning systems (EAAP) at a local scale; - Algorithms for early SAAP for slope movements; - Action plan for monitoring systems at local and regional scale;
  •  Technical specifications for the implementation of prototype SAAP.
  •  Communication Roadmap for dissemination and awareness; - Interregional conferences and an international conference on natural risks posed by climate change; - Manual of good practices for managing the risk of slope movements; - Training plan on natural risks, in connection with partners and other entities; - Participatory processes based on cultural democracy methodologies, with populations affected by natural risks.
