Project Description:
The objective of OCEANPLAN is to analyze, for the first time using a comprehensive and integrated approach, how marine spatial planning (MSP) can be affected and adapt to global climate change. The MSP was developed around the world as a way to promote the sustainable management of the oceans. However, despite its wide acceptance and acceptance, the MSP still faces many political, socio-economic and environmental challenges. Climate change, considered by many to be the greatest challenge humanity has ever faced, will add to these challenges. OCEANPLAN will develop a global index to assess the MSP's vulnerability to climate change (Task 1) and apply it to selected case studies across the planet (Task 2). In parallel, it will investigate operational approaches to adapting to change and uncertainty (Task 3), looking in more detail at how specific MSP processes and policies are integrating and dealing with climate change (Task 4). Finally, guidelines for MSP under a changing climate will be developed (Task 5).
