Project Description:

The oceans are a largely unexplored realm, potentially harboring key resources and a key piece in the puzzle of Earth's global dynamics. Our limited knowledge of oceanic processes is a direct consequence of observing oceanic challenges. In this one-year collaborative project, we will explore innovative seismology-based tools for observing the oceans.
In this project, we propose to use unique seismic datasets collected in and around northern Atlan c, both on the seafloor, oceanic islands and shores, in order to study oceanic processes and the internal structure of the Earth in oceanic domains. Our workplan aims to prove concepts that, if successful, can later be applied to larger datasets and/or used for operational/monitoring purposes. The project is structured around three main tasks: 1) Using seismic data to image ocean storms; 2) Assess the impact of the rugged topography of oceanic islands on the microseismic wave field; 3) Using OBS data as a proxy for bo ocean with currents.
