Main Objectives:

The MARCET II Project now aims to assess risk factors for cetacean conservation, as well as increase the value of cetacean observation activities in the region. The first objective integrates the use of advanced techniques of operational oceanography and health monitoring and surveillance, with the target species or bottlenose dolphin and the whale pilot. Objective 2 focuses on disseminating the diversity of cetaceans in the region and raising awareness of the importance of “protecting and conserving the marine areas where they reside. Objective 3 has a direct impact on strengthening cetacean observation as a model of sustainable economic development in the Macaronesia region.

Project Description:

The MARCET Project was created to disseminate science and technology to promote the growth and sustainable development of tourism associated with whale watching, creating the MARCET network to integrate, harmonize and optimize knowledge, infrastructure and best practices in the region.
