Main Objectives:

1. Study the potential of distance education in promoting geographic inclusion in an insular context;

1.1. Understand the experiences of Azorean students within the scope of distance education;

1.2. Understand the possible interest

and residents in peripheral areas of the Azores with higher education
offered at a distance by UAc;

1.3. Assess the receptivity of potential Azorean candidates to higher education regarding approaches to
EaD in development at UAc;

2. Explore possibilities for internationalization of distance education developed in the Azores.

Project Description:

This project is predominantly oriented towards the study of the potential of Distance Learning (EaD) in
promotion of geographic inclusion in an insular context, without prejudice to its exploitation as a means of
internationalization.
Knowing that distance education, by allowing access to education at any time and anywhere, can contribute
decisively for the mitigation of the effects of geographical barriers, a greater development of distance education from
of the Azores can constitute a factor of inclusion in the access to higher education, especially for Azoreans who
reside on the periphery of the archipelago. Thus, it is intended to understand the possible interest of the latter for
higher education offered at a distance by the University of the Azores (UAc) and evaluate its receptivity
regarding approaches to distance education under development in this Higher Education Institution. Complementarily
to this orientation, especially focused on the needs of the Azorean population, it is intended to explore
possibilities of taking advantage of distance education as a means of internationalization, contributing to the reinforcement of
insertion of part of the training offer of the UAc in international training itineraries.
