Main Objectives:
This project was designed to meet the objectives of measure 1.1.c – “Implementation of R&DI projects” in the area of Social Sciences and Humanities, seeking to fit into two societal challenges: “Europe in a Changing World – Inclusive Societies , Innovative and Thoughtful” and “Health, demographic changes and well-being” (cf. Public policies and project impact). In response to these challenges, three general objectives were defined for the project: 1. Contribute to the reduction of social inequalities of children who attend kindergartens located in a priority intervention area on the island of São Miguel; 2. Provide kindergarten teachers with more effective/positive strategies to work with the children in their classrooms; 3. To analyze the effectiveness of the Incredible Years, Incredible Years - Teacher Classroom Management Program (IY-TCM) program on the emotional well-being, stress and self-efficacy of kindergarten teachers and on children's social skills and behavior problems. These three objectives have as a common basis the implementation of the IY-TCM program.
Project Description:
This project seeks to respond to an obvious gap pointed out by early childhood educators: lack of training
about strategies for dealing with children's behavioral challenges. Objectives: a) to contribute to the
reducing social inequalities, b) providing educators with more effective strategies for working with children, and c)
to analyze the effectiveness of the Incredible Years - Teacher Classroom Management Program (IY-TCM). Will be
30 kindergarten teachers were selected, divided into two groups: intervention group (15 educators - training
TCM) and control group (15 educators - usual care). The evaluation will take place in three stages: pre,
post-intervention and follow-up. Variables of the 30 educators (stress, self-efficacy, burnout) and variables of the
450 children (estimate) (behavior problems). By providing this intervention, it will be possible to overcome
difficulties in accessing training resulting from the insularity of the RAA.
