Service Provision Description:
This is a study on electoral abstention verified in the Azores, between 1976 and 2016, with a special focus on abstention registered in regional legislative elections.
As abstention is one of the consequences of the lack of political participation, the study seeks to determine the variation of this practice over time.
Thus, in a first phase, we seek to determine the real abstention, through a demographic study, comparing the population with electoral capacity over time with the abstention registered in each electoral act, in order to verify the existence of significant discrepancies. In a second phase, an attempt is made to identify and characterize the reasons for political participation and its absence, through a sociological study that shows the reasons for the lack of participation.
