Main Objectives:

This year, on the 30th and 31st of October, in Ponta Delgada, and on the 4th and 5th of November in Lisbon, we intend to hold the VIII edition of the Colloquiums, this time centered on the life and work of Teófilo Braga (1843-1924 ).

Author of a versatile, controversial and vast literary, philosophical, historical and ethnographic work, driven by republican ideals applied in an intense civic and political intervention, Teófilo Braga is an intellectual deeply committed, through knowledge and action, to affirming national identity and build a better world.

Therefore, the main scientific objectives of the VIII Atlantic Colloquium are:

.deepen knowledge about the complete work of Teófilo Braga;
.critically analyze Teófilo Braga's theses on the past, present and future of Portugal;
.discuss Teófilo Braga's political theses.

The results of the research and reflection produced at the scientific meeting will be published in the collection of the Colóquios do Atlântico project.

Project Description:

The event follows those that the UAc Center for Humanistic Studies has been organizing over the last decade.
It is our purpose, in partnership with the Institute of Luso-Brazilian Philosophy and other entities, to carry out an in-depth study of great figures of Azorean intellectuality, often unjustly forgotten, bringing new perspectives for research and reflection.
