Main Objectives:

The objective of this project is the production of informative, credible and reference content from a scientific point of view, for digital dissemination, about the professional activity of women, in the urban context of the islands of São Miguel and Terceira, between 1850 and 1926. To this end, the project is divided into two distinct parts: the first phase, which consists of comparing documentary sources and producing scientific content, and the second, which consists of carrying out a series of communicative, scientific, educational and cultural, which aim at the informational dissemination of what has been collected. The first phase, scheduled to take 17 months, will consist of collecting information from archival sources (Archive of the Civil Government of Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo, Archive of the General Board of the District of Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo, Archive of the Administration of the Municipality of Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo, Archive of the Municipality of Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo, Private Archives), periodical sources (newspapers, magazines and almanacs), as well as some statistical sources (Reports), consulted and organized chronologically, simultaneously elaborating alphabetical and professional indexes of the identified female figures. During this first phase, and simultaneously with the course of the research, actions will be carried out to publicize the project and some of the contents already collated, namely through a public communication marking Women's Day, as well as the creation of a profile on the social network Instagram. for the dissemination of all the work of the project throughout its execution. Images will also be collected during this period that will be used to edit the final video that the project intends to carry out and the Call for Papers of the Seminar will be opened, which will also be held at the end of the project. The second phase will consist of the materialization and public dissemination of the information content collected in the previous 17 months. This realization will consist in the creation of a website where the information collected, arranged by alphabetical, professional or toponymic access, can be accessed free of charge and used as an educational resource (in a school context), as a training and informative resource (by tourist guides or trainers in the areas heritage and/or tourism) and as a scientific resource (by researchers from different areas of Social Sciences in addressing gender and gender equality issues and insular socio-economic issues). It will also result in the holding of various lectures and didactic activities in a school context, with the aim of bringing to the attention of the younger unknown female figures and their action in the labor market at that period, in the search for greater awareness of gender equality. and for a more enlightened civic education of the youngest. A video will also be produced documenting the entire project and its different moments/phases, as well as small segments dedicated to some of these female figures. Its dissemination will take place at the level of the regional television operator, but also through the Research Center (CHAM) Youtube channel, through CHAM-A, proponent of this project. It will also be available for final viewing on the project's website, which will continue to produce content after its completion, and can also be used in various other training and educational contexts. It is also intended to hold a Scientific Seminar dedicated to the role of women in the context of work, to be held at the end of the project, which will result in a publication that will be available on its website and on the CHAM website for consultation and public use. As in the first phase, this second phase will also mark Women's Day, with an activity that will use the information collected during the project, enhancing it and applying it to local civic and historical training.
