Biography
Sofia Teixeira, born on February 19, 1981, in Funchal, took a master's degree in Animal Science, at the Department of Agricultural
Sciences, University of the Azores, in which she developed a work on Cryopreservation of immature bovine oocytes, which was
published in a book, with the title: Cryopreservation of immature bovine oocytes. In vitro maturation and fertilization of
post-thawing bovine oocytes, ISBN:978-3-659-63391-1.
After a year, she did a PhD in Agricultural Sciences, in the same department, specializing in Animal Production. During her
PhD, she developed a project related to Swine, more specifically, with Semen Cryopreservation and strategies to improve it.
During the four years of her PhD, she collaborated in the master’s classes in Animal Science and in courses and in swine insemination.
During the PhD, three articles were published in international journals. She was part of the ECOFIBRAS project team (Eco-sustainable
valorization of invasive plant species from Macaronesia to obtain industrial fibers) and of the AD4MAC project (Promotion
of the circular economy and renewable energies through anaerobic digestion of organic waste and by-products in Macaronesia),
at the Animal Nutrition and Feeding Laboratory, where she developed a line of research that allowed her to participate in
international congresses and publish articles.
At the end of 2020, she started a post-Doc project, at IITAA, entitled: “Precision Food a Tool to Fight Climate Change”. Her
area of scientific activity is Animal Science and Veterinary Sciences, Specialization areas in Animal Reproduction Physiology
and Semen/Embryos Cryopreservation in species of zootechnical interest and frozen semen and liquid nitrogen management, Nutrition
and Animal Feed
Scientific domains: Domains of specialization in Animal Reproduction Physiology and Cryopreservation of semen/embryos in species
of zootechnical interest and frozen semen and liquid nitrogen management, Animal Production, Nutrition and Animal Feed; Animal
welfare; Precision feeding; Animal creation; Dairy cows; Animal health.
