Main Objectives:

The main objective of the ALSEMAC Project is to promote the responsible consumption of safe and sustainable foods, produced in a circular economy framework efficient in the Canary Islands, Madeira, Azores. Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Ghana, increasing the food and economic independence of the territories.

Identify the dangers of food intake and nutritional characterization;

Promote sustainable food production within an efficient circular economy structure;

Promote responsible food consumption. Triple-S foods: safe, healthy and sustainable.

Project Description:

Alsemac is an interregional cooperation initiative focused on sustainable food production and consumption under the principles of circular, efficient and food safety. Its main objective is to promote the responsible consumption of safe, healthy and sustainable foods (triple s) in a circular economy. The project comprises three work packages with specific objectives to boost the transition to consumer products, supporting the use of good food purchase practice and reducing carbon footprint.

The archipelagos of macaronesia and the countries of West Africa are marked by natural and social fragility. As a result, the populations of these regions live with high dependence on external sources of food.

In no other region is there a need for a more justified approach production and consumption that respects the environment, and it is essential to promote local food consumption, favoring circular economy and reducing carbon footprint. Cooperation between regions with similar problems will propose a table for the exchange of information and actions in an environment of common problems.

the actions to be carried out in the project will benefit. Ultimately, all residents of the Macaronesia region.

Technical actions are intended for the staff of administration, agriculture and health, field technicians, farmers and operators.

Results:

- Implementation of a “Differential Monitoring Program for organic and inorganic contaminants products of local and imported origin.” - Planning of sampling (sample number) and sample type). - Performing chemical analysis of contaminants and identification of potential dangers in food. - Determination of the concentrations of the main nutritional elements and their contribution to IDRs. - Characterization of hunger hunger.

- minimize the use of phytosanitary products on plantations - Study of phytosanitary treatments on biological activity and biodiversity of agricultural soils - training in organic fertilization and local organic waste transformation into high agronomic value products: biochar, compound and vermeposed - informative material on integrated control Agroecology - Promote healthy ecosystems and biodiversity.

- know the social perception of food risk and the circular economy. - Toxic risk assessment due to the presence of contaminants in food in different countries. - Sensitization of the population from the results obtained. - Nutritional evaluation of the population to determine the presence of “hidden hunger” and develop measures to mitigate it. - Preparation of policy documents and recommendations public disclosure.
