Main Objectives:

This project is part of the strategic priority related to Agriculture, Livestock and Agroindustry (AGR1 to AGR3) insofar as it protects and promotes on a large scale the sustainability of production systems and enhances the current horticultural products of the partner regions . This is because the project's main objective is to promote awareness-raising actions among the general population and the competent authorities for the potential entry of new pests such as: Drosophila suzukii and Bactrocera dorsalis. Another main objective concerns the assessment of the potential risk of invasion of each species and assessment of the current situation of other quarantine pests already established in the partner regions as in the case of the Azores of Ceratitis capitata and Popillia japonica. It is intended, therefore, to protect the entry of these harmful organisms through a set of actions and measures so that the productive potential of each region is not affected.

Project Description:

EPPO (European and Mediterranean Plant Protection) together with other international organizations, carry out risk analyzes for the area of the Mediterranean arc and Central Europe that can cause changes in the regulations, but the conditions of the regions that make up Macaronesia are left unassessed. This has caused the entry of pests and diseases in the Macaronesian region from different parts of the world, mainly from the
Origin centers of cultivated plants. The islands in the region have been subjected in recent years to contamination from emerging diseases and pests, which have caused significant damage to regional agriculture.
This project aims to carry out a pest risk analysis for the regions that make up Macaronesia. Growing globalization has led to a greater circulation of goods and services around the world.
