Main Objectives:

Promote academic events and organize scientific publications on aspects that form the insular culture of the Azores and Canaries in exchange with researchers from the University of La Laguna. Investigate the perception of identity of the Azoreans and the Canaries, as an outermost community in Europe, with regard to the cultural changes caused by the development of tourist activity, analyzing their sociocultural impacts. Raise awareness, through decentralized cultural actions, of the population of the different islands on issues related to interculturality and the preservation of cultural heritage, essential elements for strengthening their identity and citizenship. To promote the democratization of cultural wisdom regarding the (re)construction of identity territories when debating current issues. Develop cultural activities on the different islands with a view to promoting knowledge, creativity and critical awareness of the participants.

Project Description:

The main purpose of this project is to use data from academic research developed by the team of
research with the Center for Humanistic Studies (CEHu/UAc) as an instrument for pedagogical optimization,
promoting university extension activities on the nine islands of the archipelago.

For this reason, the Mais CulTurA Project aims to be more than a research tool. It will be a vehicle to promote debate and reflection on cultural goods in view of anthropological issues related to tourist activity understood as a cultural phenomenon. To debate a cultural phenomenon is to produce
knowledge about it, which is fundamental for its understanding.

The task of the Mais CulTurA Project will focus on the elaboration of academic events and cultural actions that explain the
singular condition of the Azorean culture in the different islands in dialogue with the themes of memory, identity
culture, tourism and Euro-Atlantic insularity.
